RIS is a networked software system for managing medical imagery and associated data. A RIS is especially useful for tracking radiology imaging orders and billing information, and is often used in conjunction with PACS to manage image archives, record-keeping and billing. RIS has several basic functions, which are listed below.
PACS- is a medical imaging technology used for storing, retrieving, presenting and sharing images produced by various medical hardware modalities, such as X-ray, CT scan, MRI and ultrasound machines.
EKON Whole Slide Scanner is an advanced innovation with latest state of art technology in slide scanning. EKON whole slide imaging provides a novel technology where glass slides are scanned and produces a single digital image. The images are saved in DICOM format along with Patient and other related data. There have been significant advances in whole slide scanning, the hardware and software that have allowed for ready access of whole slide images. The whole slide images can be viewed in a DICOM viewer as digital files. Whole slide imaging has increased in adoption among pathologists, pathology departments, and scientists for clinical, educational, and research initiatives.
Comprehensive communication of patient demographic and clinical data between RIS, PACS and HIS are necessary prerequisites to achieve error free operations and cost effectiveness in any Medical organisation.
